World building with Ironswon Delve - Nocturia

Using Delve for world building...

This evening I was in the mood for a bit world building and decided to use the very nice Ironsworn Delve supplement for starters.  The idea is to further supplement the setting with additional random tables as we go along.

Let's roll some bones:
  • Theme -> d8 -> rolled a 6, ravaged. Time, weather or calamity have taken its toll and laid waste to the land. A decent start for the overarching geography for this world.
  • Features -> d20 -> rolled a 16, traces of what was lost.
  • Dangers -> d30 -> rolled 30, ravages return anew. This should cover possible adversities or adversaries to be faced by the PCs when journeying  in this world.
Our world so far...

The ravaged lands of Nocturia extend as far as the I can see. The scorched earth and the Three Moons of Aledis cast strange and eerie shadows across the vale. A few ruins of once ancient and powerful lords dot the landscape. The earth and skies devoid of life, but other unseen things lurk in the darkness...

A good start, let's get a location going...
  • Site Starters -> d100 -> rolled a 94. The stronghold of Topplekeep; I am not a big fan of the name, let's change it using Ironsworn core (Oracle 7: Settlement Name page 178)
  • Settlement name -> d100 -> 88, a season or environment aspect. Let's roll another d100 -> 91, Rockfall.
Let's return to Delve and use the description for the Topplekeep site starter and flesh-out the stronghold of Rockfall.

Nestled on top the jagged rock formations of the Flathorns, the skeletal structures of Rockfall strike an unsettling silhouette. The weathered battlements battered by years of war, now stand as the last testament of a long forgotten powerful warlord. The tattered and torn banners of the Black Raven flap in the harsh winds of Nocturia. Most of the keep, great hall and the towers in a state of ruin. The moat filled with stagnant and brackish waters. To the east lie the dark tangled woods of the Wild Shadofen.

...Deep in the recess of the towers and the flooded passages, lurk strange and deadly creatures  that only appear under the deep cover of night. Eerie sounds and whispers hiss in the undulating winds biding foolish adventurers forth towards the foretold doom.

A nice start to our campaign. We need a bit more though. To be continued...
